Splashing out £100,000 a week, Colin Weir certainly enjoyed his new-found wealth, along with his wife Christine, until he passed away from sepsis at the age of 71 in 2019.
The Scotsman, from Ayrshire, bought himself a string of luxury motors and pumped money into his beloved football team Partick Thistle, who have even named a stand in his honour.
He also shelled out for stakes in Greggs and Irn Bru, as part of a £12million share portfolio that included Tesco and Louis Vuitton.
Colin was generous too, sharing his fortune with his and Christine’s two children, Carly and Jamie, and donating wads to charity.
By the time of his death, he owned £212,000 worth of furniture jewellery and artwork, while his car collection boasted a vintage Bentley Arnage and a £35,000 Mercedes Benz V Class people carrier.
He owned three thoroughbred racehorses and he even ensured that those who mourned his passing were lavishly looked after at his funeral as, knowing he was going to die, he organised a £1m farewell party for friends and family.
The guests were treated to £340 bottles of champagne, lobster and £40-a-bowl truffle soup to toast Colin’s life.
Colin and Christine had divorced by the time of his death and he had moved into a £1.1m bachelor pad while she continued to live in the £3.5m mansion they had bought together.
His football-themed funeral saw mourners line the street as he visited Partick’s stadium for one final time.
