In March last year, the 3D printing company released a 32 square meter tiny house that cost $10,000 and took just 48 hours to build.
The company was confident that it would be able to print a large design in just 24 hours and at an even lower cost of around $4,000, as the printer was not working at full capacity at the time. A year after the release of the prototype,
Icon is now selling an updated version of its 3D printer. Prints are the latest in construction, but they aren’t always cheap or simple. In March, New Story, a San Francisco-based nonprofit, and Icon, a 3D printer and technology company, challenged these stereotypes in just 48 hours with a $10,000 tiny house.

The 32 square meter house was much cheaper than the average tiny house, which starts at $25,000. With the help of 3D Story technology, it took New Story eight months to build 100 houses, each costing about $6,000. During prototype development, the Vulcan printer was operating at only 25% capacity.

This has given companies confidence that they can build a home, starting at 55 to 75 square meters, in just 24 hours for $4,000 or less.
